Bloodsmelt

Bloodsmelting is a way to meld two Espers together to create one that is more powerful. It can take a lot of time, effort, and gold to see the results, but in the end a Bloodsmelted Esper is much stronger than one that has never been Bloodsmelted.

Items Needed

  • One Esper that you would like to improve.
  • Any other Esper, which will be destroyed in order to improve the main Esper.
  • A medium that matches the Esper you would like to improve. You can obtain Bloodsmelting mediums by trading Treasure Bowls or Spirit Dust with Tonni in Sunstream City.

Note: The medium needed to Bloodsmelt with a Trigram as the main Esper is sold by the Esper Mystic in Sunstream, while the medium needed to Bloodsmelt the Athan's Colorful Gem is sold by the Esper Mystic in the Divine Realm.

Bloodsmelting Process

Once you have the above items, speak to any Esper Mystic and select the Bloodsmelt option.

Put the Esper you would like to improve into the Primary slot, the Esper that will be destroyed into the Secondary slot, and the medium into the Medium slot.

Click Start and the three items will be combined.

General Bloodsmelting

An Esper has three levels of Quality, known as Precious, Heavenly, and Divined. These Quality levels represent the sum of an Esper's growth rates similar to the way a pet's Grade does, except that in this case, you cannot see what the Esper's growth rates actually are.

Bloodsmelting a Trigram (of any Quality) onto any Esper will increase its growth rates slightly, and if you Bloodsmelt with enough Trigrams, its Quality will increase. However, there is a point at which Trigrams will no longer increase an Esper's growth rates.

The higher the grade and level of your secondary esper is, the better results you get on your primary esper. A low-quality esper can, in fact, lower the quality of the primary esper. A general rule of thumb is that the most efficient way to divine an esper is to use divined secondary espers of a "tier" below the primary (hence: level 105 espers to divine a 135, level 75 espers to divine 105, etc).

Tip: Bloodsmelt an Esper after it has reached a high level in order to see the differences right away! An Esper does not need to be Bloodsmelted while it is Level 1 in order to achieve maximum growth rates.

Specific Bloodsmelting

When you purchase Trigrams from the Esper Mystic in Sunstream, you will notice that some of them will have attributes that are marked in orange. The orange color does not represent a higher growth rate in that attribute; it is actually a type of "lock" for Bloodsmelting purposes -- when an Esper with such an orange attribute is Bloodsmelted, only that attribute will increase or decrease. Other (white) stats may experience a slight decrease (see paragraph 5). This method can be used to specifically lower the attributes you don't need or raise the ones you do need.

Only Trigrams will show this orange attribute naturally, but you can set any Esper to have that orange attribute by bloodsmelting it with such a Trigram using a transfer medium: Best Dragon Skin (for LV75+ Espers), Best Spirit Light (for LV45 Espers), Best Yin-Yang Flag (for LV15 Espers), or Best Blood Wine (for Trigrams). You can obtain the lower-level mediums by trading a Best Dragon Skin to Tonni in Sunstream.

Note: This is not transferring the attribute itself or its growth rate, all you are transferring is the fact that the attribute is orange.

If you want to raise a certain attribute on an Esper, you should buy Trigrams until you get one that has the orange attribute you're looking for. Bloodsmelt your Esper with that Trigram and the Best Dragon Skin (or other appropriate medium), and the orange-marked Trigram will be destroyed in order to set your Esper's stat to orange. If you would like to remove the orange mark from your Esper, simply Bloodsmelt with another Best Dragon Skin using a Trigram that has no orange attributes.

After marking one of your Esper's attributes to orange, simply Bloodsmelt it with Trigrams (of any quality) as you would with General Bloodsmelting. Once Bloodsmelting it with Trigrams no longer raises the attribute, you can further increase it using higher-level/quality Espers, or you can use another transfer medium to switch the orange color to a different attribute.

Keep in mind, however, that while a stat has a maximum cap, the esper itself only appears to have a 'set' amount of points to distribute. Once you reach the esper's full potential, it may therefore begin reducing other stats on the esper to further increase the orange stat.

Tip: The orange line 'Bloodsmelting:' in your esper window denotes the current esper stat that will be affected by future bloodsmelting. This information was added to distinguish between Min- and Max Attack.
