The Exploration Window

The exploration system was added in the August 2nd expansion.

Exploration takes two new items – Expedition Packs and Sage's Compasses – and turns them into a ton of rewards, including orbs for bloodbonding, Ancient Coins and Kirin Sigil Shards!

Exploration

The Exploration icon is the magnifying glass on the right side of the window, under the mini-map. Clicking it will bring up a map of nine zones. With an Expedition pack, you can Explore for any treasures in the zone and instantly get them – you won't even have to leave your spot to get rewards.

Each Expedition Pack will give you one chance to Explore for treasures, and you can only Explore a zone once per day. Every zone will have its own randomly-generated level, from zero to five stars. The more stars a zone has, the better the rewards you can get when you Explore it.

Sage's Compasses are the key to increasing a zone's level. Use these to have a chance to increase the zone's value. On a success, the value will increase; if not, the value will stay the same (it'll never decrease).

The higher the level of the zone, the more prizes you'll get: Chroma Beads, Ancient Coins, bloodbonding orbs and more. You can find the full list of prizes for the zone down at the bottom-right of the interface, and you'll get all of them, unless they're marked as random. At high levels, you've got a chance at prizes like 2x Kirin Sigil Shards, bonus Champion Vouchers for Moontop Hollow, and Fine Seal Orbs.

Exploration

So how do you get the Expedition Packs and Sage's Compasses that you'll need? Partly through the Soul Tower instance, and partly through the Online Rewards.

(Just to clarify early on: Although each of the zones in the Exploration interface is named after an in-game location, you don’t have to go there or in any way deal with those in-game zones. The Dragon Mountain zone just happens to have that icon.)

We’ve already gone over how you'll need multiple Sage's Compass to get the best rewards. These items have a chance (and a pretty good one, at that) to increase the quality of each zone, so when you Explore it, you get better prizes. You could just stockpile over several days – or you could find all the ways to pick them up.

Guide

  1. You will get Sage's Compasses from the Online Rewards (you get them by staying online). You can access the Online Rewards by clicking the icon at the top left next to your lock. I believe it's 6 compasses a day; you will need these for the Exploration if you want better rewards. You will also need Expedition Packs that you get from the Soul Tower Instance; each one allows you to explore one area. All you need is to right-click them in your inventory. You can only explore each area once a day.
  2. Click the Exploration Icon under your minimap at the top right and select a town you're interested in exploring. There are 3 different levels of rewards, I'd like to separate them by low, mid and high level, I'd recommend exploring the Low/Mid if you're not ascended:
    Low: Sunstream, Billows, Divine Realm.
    Mid: Kunlun, Southern Border, Wildlands.
High: Ancient Lands, Heavens Repository, Dragon Mountain.
  3. You can click an area and press refresh at the cost of a Sage's Compass to possibly increase the amount of stars on an area (which increases the possible rewards). Personally, I recommend refreshing until you have 5 stars on either of the high areas for the possibility of getting 2 Kirin Sigil Shards. The mid ones have the possibility of giving 4 fine seal orbs.
  4. Explore the area of choice and reap the benefits. Hopefully, you get tons of Fine Seal Orbs or tons of Kirin Shards! If you don't care for the more powerful rewards and just want the initial rewards, you can explore without refreshing. I recommend saving compasses until you can get 5 stars for the possibility of the more powerful rewards.
