Two times each day, monsters spawn around Sunstream City that look like ghostly women in Victorian-era dresses and are named after great works of literature ("Romeo and Juliet," "Pride and Prejudice," etc). When you kill one, it will drop a book with the same name as the monster. Your task is to find matching sets of books by the same author and bring them back to Leowen.

When you mouse-over a book in your bag, at the bottom of the description will be the list of books that are in the set. This way, you know what ones you are looking for to complete the set. Most sets are pairs. However, there are several that are sets of 3, and the books by Stephen King are a set of 4. Also, there are several sets by the same author (e.g., Mark Twain has three sets of 2). You need all the books in a set to turn it in to Leowen. When you go back to Leowen, talk to him, choose the author whose books you want to turn in and choose to give the books to him.

Ground Rules

The event only happens 2 times per day. The books spawn at 12:20 and 20:00 server time. The event only takes place in Realm 15. The books spawn in all directions from the city, north, south, east, and west. After 2 hours the books will disappear (i.e., 14:20 and 22:00 server time). However, you can turn in sets of books to Leowen whenever you want. In addition, each book will only spawn 12 times per event. The time between spawns is variable, though in the neighborhood of 5 minutes.

Each book has 20 HP of health and will hit you for -1 damage. Standard attacks will only do 1 damage to a book. Skill attacks will only do 1 damage to a book (if you don't miss, that is). Pets can also attack books and will do 1 damage, except for the Scorpus Ravager which can do 21 damage and thus perform a 1-hit kill. The only thing that can increase the amount of damage you do is a +Bonus Damage necklace (not to be confused with a +Attack necklace - this does nothing to the books).

The person who does the most damage to a book is the one who can pick it up. So, if you have a +10 damage necklace, and someone else hits it for +14, you will not get the book. In the event of a damage tie (e.g., 2 people with +10) the first one to hit will get the book. This means that kill stealing is an unfortunate fact of life in the book event - it is after all a competition. It also means that common sense should prevail - if you see someone hitting for 10, 12, 14 damage, and you hit for 1 or 2, it would behoove you to find another place to hunt or at least wait until they return to the city to sell or cash in books.

Finally, books are not bound items. They can be sold to other players like most other items. In fact you will see many vendor boxes near Leowen during the event. This is a good opportunity to complete your sets or sell off books you don't want or need.

Rewards

Each set of books you turn in will reward you with 10 silver and some culture. Not a lot, but for every 4-6 sets you turn in (it seems variable) you will get a bookcase. Simply opening the case gives you 2 gold.

  • A set of 2 books gives 5 culture points.
  • A set of 3 books gives 10 culture points.
  • A set of 4 books gives 20 culture points.

Culture can be exchanged with Nura in Sunstream for Violeta Stones, used in Special Ops Quests until lvl 60 where it changes to Lunar Stones. You can exchange 5 culture points for 10 Violeta Stones.

Bookcases contain gold, title scrolls, as well as tomes.

  • Title Scrolls: can not be traded/mailed/sold. Enjoy the Pink!
  • Honor Tomes: Right clicking will give you either 250 or 1000 Honor with a given faction.
    • Vim
      • Origin of Wildland Sanctuary - 250 Honor
      • Vim Skills - 1000 Honor
    • Jadeon
      • Jadeon Travel Notes - 250 Honor
      • Jadeon Skills - 1000 Honor

  • Piety: Right clicking will give you either 250 or 1000 Piety. A top 500 or better Piety ranking can lead to receiving honor gem(s).
  • Romance: Right clicking will give either 50 or 280 Romance. Want to get married? This is a good way to accumulate the 9999 Romance you need.
  • Money: Right clicking will give you either 5 gold or 20 gold (this one is rare).
  • Health orbs: Right clicking will give you 10 Refined Health Orbs or 10 Special Health Orbs
